Free online document editor

Write and format a document, or open a Word file, then download it as .docx, PDF, Markdown or plain text. No account, and nothing you type is uploaded.

0 words Kept in this tab only

Want a hand with the writing? A free Oppermind account saves your documents, so a draft doesn’t go when the tab closes, and opens them in the full Doc editor with AI writing, rewriting and translation, plus comments and version history. Files you use there are uploaded to Oppermind. No card needed. Sign up free

How to use the document editor

  1. Start typing on the blank page, or choose Open .docx to edit a Word file. You can also drop a .docx anywhere on this page.
  2. Format with the toolbar: bold, italic, underline, text colour, styles for titles, headings and quotes, lists, links, tables and images. Tab and Shift+Tab move a list item in and out, and Ctrl+Enter starts a new page.
  3. Choose the download button and pick Word, PDF, Markdown or plain text.

Your draft stays on your device

The editor runs in your browser. When you open a .docx, your browser unzips and reads it on your own computer or phone, and every download is built the same way, so the text of your contract or cover letter never passes through Oppermind. Nothing is autosaved either, so the draft lives in this tab until you download it. This page counts visits without cookies unless you’ve turned analytics off, and sets analytics cookies only if you allow them, as our privacy policy explains.

Questions

Is this document editor free?

Yes. There’s no sign-up or card, and downloads carry no watermark.

Does it save my document?

No. Nothing is uploaded or stored, so the document exists only in this browser tab. Download a copy before you close it. The page warns you if you try to leave with changes you haven’t downloaded.

Can I edit a Word document here?

Yes, if it’s a .docx file. Text, headings, lists, tables, links, page breaks, PNG and JPEG images, and bold, italic, underline and colour come through. Fonts and font sizes, columns, text boxes, headers and footers, footnotes and comments don’t, merged table cells are split into separate cells, and tracked changes are accepted as they stand. An older .doc file needs saving as .docx first.

How does the PDF download look?

It has A4 pages with standard margins, selectable text and working links. It uses the standard PDF fonts, a Times-style serif for body text and a Helvetica-style sans for headings, so it won’t match a designed layout exactly. Those fonts only cover English and Western European letters, and the page tells you which characters won’t fit before it makes the PDF.

What do Markdown and plain text leave out?

Markdown keeps headings, bold, italic, links, lists and tables, but has no place for underline, colour or embedded images. Plain text keeps the words and list markers, with table cells separated by tabs.
