How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Choose Select PDF file, or drag the PDF that needs numbering onto the box above.
- Click one of the six spots for the numbers, then pick a format. To skip a cover or title page, set the page to start on.
- Check the preview, flicking through a few pages with the arrows, then choose Add page numbers and download the file.
Your file stays on your device
The numbering is done by your browser, on your computer or phone. The PDF isn’t sent to Oppermind or anyone else, so a thesis draft or a signed contract bundle stays with you. When you close the tab, nothing is kept. Analytics on this page run only if you allow them, as our privacy policy explains.
Questions
Can I leave the cover page without a number?
Yes. Set Start on page to 2 and the cover stays blank. First number sets what that second page shows, so leave it at 1 if you want the page after the cover to read 1.
What is N in Page 1 of N?
The last number printed. Skip the cover of a 10-page file and start at 1, and the pages read 1 of 9 through to 9 of 9.
Does it handle landscape and rotated pages?
Yes. Each number is placed on the page as it looks when the file is opened, so a landscape or rotated page gets an upright number in the spot you picked. Pages of different sizes each get their own placement.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Your browser adds the numbers on your own device. Oppermind’s servers never receive the file.
Does anything else in the PDF change?
Links, bookmarks and form fields stay as they were. The numbers are plain black text in a standard PDF font, drawn on top, so check the preview if the page already has a footer in that spot. A digital signature won’t stay valid, because the file changes after it was signed.
