How to compare two PDFs
- Choose the old version and the new version, or drop both onto the box above. The first file dropped counts as the old one, and the arrows swap them.
- Choose Compare. Added words show in green and removed words in red, grouped by page. Next change and Previous change step through them.
- Open Visual to see matching pages side by side, or switch to Highlight differences to mark the areas where a page looks different. Very faint changes can fall below what it marks.
- Download a text report of the changes if you want a record of them.
Your files stay on your device
Both PDFs are opened and compared inside your browser, on your own computer or phone. A contract draft or a revised quote checked here never passes through Oppermind, and closing the tab clears the two files and the comparison. The page itself uses cookies, and analytics only if you allow them, as set out in our privacy policy.
Questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Both PDFs are read and compared by your browser on your own device. Oppermind’s servers never receive them.
What does the text comparison miss?
It compares words, not appearance. A new font, colour or position with the same words won’t show up there, so check the visual view for those. Scanned pages have no text layer and can only be compared visually. The comparison is a guide to what changed, so read anything that matters, such as a contract, in full before you rely on it.
What if the new version has extra pages?
Pages are matched by their text, so an added or removed page normally shows as its own block of green or red and the pages after it still line up. If the two files differ a lot, pages are compared one to one instead. In the visual view an added page sits next to an empty space.
Can I compare password-protected PDFs?
Not here. Save a copy of each file without the password, then compare the copies.
Is it free?
Yes. You can run as many comparisons as you like without an account or a card.
