How to edit a PDF
- Select your PDF, or drop it onto the box above.
- Pick a tool and use it on the page. Click where text should start and type, drag across a line to highlight it, or draw with the pen. Shapes, images and white-out boxes are in the same toolbar.
- To change something you've added, choose Select, then click it. Drag it to move it, drag the round corner handle to resize it, or press Delete. Undo takes back the last change.
- Choose Apply and download to save a copy with your changes.
Using a keyboard
Choose a tool with Enter and the new item appears in the middle of the page you're looking at. Arrow keys move the selected item (hold Shift for bigger steps), plus and minus change its size, Enter edits text and Delete removes it. Ctrl+Z undoes and Ctrl+Y redoes. The pen needs a mouse, finger or stylus.
Your file stays on your device
Your browser opens the PDF and writes your text, drawings and white-out into it on your own computer or phone. The file isn't uploaded to Oppermind or anywhere else, and closing the tab clears it. The page itself uses cookies, and analytics only if you allow them, as set out in our privacy policy.
Questions
Can I change the text that's already in the PDF?
No. This tool adds to a PDF. New text, highlights, drawings, shapes, images and white-out boxes are drawn on top of the pages, and the existing text isn't changed in place. To reword a line, cover it with white-out and type the new wording over the top.
Does white-out delete the text underneath?
No. White-out hides the text under a white box, but the original words are still in the file and can be found by searching, copied or read by software. It also can’t cover form fields or comments, which sit on top of the page. To remove text for good, use the Redact PDF tool instead.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF, and any image you place on it, is read by your browser on your own device. Oppermind's servers never receive the file.
Which characters can I type?
Added text uses the standard Helvetica font, which covers English and most Western European accented letters. Characters outside that set, such as Chinese, Arabic or emoji, are replaced with a question mark in the saved file.
Is it free?
Yes. You don't need an account or a card, and the edited PDF downloads without a watermark.
