What each lesson covers
Download the add-ins from Settings, register them on your computer, then open Oppermind from the Home tab and sign in.
The add-ins install on a computer. In Oppermind, open Settings, then Apps and extensions, and choose Download add-ins (.zip). Run the included script for Windows or macOS to register the catalog, restart Word, Excel or PowerPoint, and turn on Oppermind from the add-ins controls. The Oppermind button on the Home tab opens the panel; sign in with the same account you use in Oppermind.
Practice. Install the add-ins on the computer where you edit Office files, open the panel in Word and sign in.
Settings, Apps and extensions, Download add-ins (.zip). Run the Windows or macOS script from the download, restart Word, enable Oppermind, then click Oppermind on the Home tab and sign in.
Act without asking lets you watch and press Stop; Ask before changing lets you allow or skip each change.
Lato reads the file you have open, makes the changes you ask for and shows each step in the panel as it works. The button beside + in the message box sets how it changes your file. Act without asking: Lato changes the file while you watch, and you can press Stop at any time. Ask before changing: each change waits for you, in a card that says Lato wants to change the document (or workbook, or presentation), with Allow, Allow all for this task and Skip.
Practice. Switch to Ask before changing, ask for a small change, and allow or skip each step. Then switch back to Act without asking for a change you are happy to watch.
With Ask before changing selected: Turn the key figures in this document into a table.
Your selection shows as a tag in the message box, + adds files, skills, brand kits and connectors, and the microphone takes a spoken request.
Select text, cells, a picture, chart, table or shape in your file and it shows as a tag in the panel's message box. It goes with your next message, so Lato knows which part you mean; close it with × to leave it out. The + button adds files, skills, brand kits and connectors. Tag a brand kit and Lato uses its fonts, colors and logo in what it adds. The microphone button turns a spoken request into text.
Practice. Select one paragraph or range, check that its tag appears in the message box, and ask for one change to just that part.
Select the Scope of Works section of the tender response, then type: Rewrite this section in plain English at about half the length. Keep every deliverable and date exactly as they are.
Ask for writing, formatting, tables, comments, tracked changes, headers and footers, then check them in Word.
In Word, Lato can write and format text, build tables, add comments, turn on track changes and set up headers and footers. Ask for a chart and it adds one with its data inside, so you can edit it later; it charts figures from your file or your messages, or says where they came from. Ask for review comments when you want to keep the decisions yourself.
Practice. Open a real draft, choose Ask before changing, and ask Lato to review it with comments rather than rewrite it.
Turn on track changes, then review this document and add comments where it could be clearer. Don't change any figures.
Ask for working formulas, tables, charts and formatting in Excel, and new or changed slides in PowerPoint.
In Excel, Lato can write values and working formulas, format cells, and add sheets, tables, charts and conditional formatting. In PowerPoint, it can add, duplicate, move and delete slides, and add or change text, shapes, tables and pictures. It can also put an Oppermind document, sheet or deck, a file you attached or a picture from the web into the open file. Check formulas against a few rows by hand, and step through every slide before you present.
Practice. In Excel, select a range and ask for one formula column and a chart. In PowerPoint, ask for three slides from an outline, then read each slide.
In Excel, select A1:H240 on the expense-claims sheet, then type: Add a Flag column that shows Yes where the amount is over 500 and the receipt column is blank, highlight those rows, and tell me how many you found.
Press Stop to redirect, check the file itself, reopen earlier chats from History, and find the earlier assistant in Settings.
While Lato works, Stop ends the task; then say what to change and send again. Review the file itself, not just the panel: text, figures, formulas, layout and anything that will be shared. History in the panel reopens your earlier chats from that app. The earlier assistant, with its Insert and Replace buttons, is still in Settings as Classic assistant.
Practice. Start a longer request, press Stop partway, redirect it in one message, then open History and find the chat again.
While Lato is writing the quarterly commentary into the report, press Stop and type: Use the figures from the Q4 table on page 2, not Q3, and write it for the board rather than the finance team.
