Oppermind glossary
The words you meet in the workspace, the editors and the docs, each in a sentence or two, with a link to where it is taught.
A
- Add a custom MCP server
- Connects your own tool server that speaks MCP. You enter a Display name, a JSON-RPC endpoint URL and an Auth option, then click Add connector. Custom connectors and MCP
- Agent
- An assistant you hire with a name and a goal. Create agent opens a conversation whose first card asks for a Name, a Goal and When to work, and after Continue the agent starts work. Agents mode
- Attach file
- The paperclip beside the message box. On desktop you can attach up to 12 files to a message, each up to 12 MB. Quickstart
- Auto
- The default chat mode. It decides how to handle each request, with a quick answer, deeper reasoning or a Workspace Agent when the work needs one. Chat modes and reasoning effort
B
- Brand kit
- Your brand's colours, fonts, voice and templates, uploaded or generated in Settings, Brand kit. Pick one for a chat from the Brands tab of the + menu, because a kit is not applied until you pick it. Brand kits
- Browser operator
- The chat mode for operating one website by opening pages, clicking, typing and filling in forms. Choosing it asks you to confirm, and if you cancel it switches to Workspace Agent 1.0. It is not meant for normal chat or general search. Chat modes and reasoning effort
C
- Chat and Agents
- The switch at the top of the left sidebar. Chat lists your sessions and workers, Agents lists your agents, routines and listeners, and both lists share your folders. Agents mode
- Chip
- A small labelled pill above the message box that shows what your next message will use, such as an open editor, a skill, a brand kit or a connector. Click its × to remove it. Mentions and context chips
- Code agent
- The chat mode for web apps and multi-file projects. It writes and edits files, runs a terminal and previews the result. Chat modes and reasoning effort
- Command palette
- Opens with Ctrl or Cmd + K. Search it to open editors, conversations and workers, or to run commands such as Settings and Keyboard shortcuts. Built-in editors
- Connector
- A link to another service, such as Gmail, Slack or GitHub, that Lato can read from or act in. Set it up in Settings, Connectors, where a connected card offers Sync now and Disconnect. Connectors
- Critical path
- In the Project editor, the chain of tasks that sets the finish date. Its toggle shows only those tasks, with their summary rows. Plan and track a project in the Project editor
- Custom Tool
- An editor that hosts an interactive tool Lato builds for you, such as a calculator or a form. Save as App keeps it, so it appears in the Apps tab of the + menu. Live artifacts and custom tools
D
- Desktop Agent
- The editor, listed as Desktop Agent under New editor, that shows a paired PC's connection, live screen and controls. The chat mode for the same work is Desktop co-pilot. Desktop Agent and Desktop co-pilot
- Desktop co-pilot
- The chat mode that sends your instruction to a Windows PC paired through Oppermind Desktop, so Lato can read the screen, move the cursor, type and manage windows. With no PC connected, it tells you so. Desktop Agent and Desktop co-pilot
- Developer API
- A Settings tab for building with the Oppermind API, covering keys, usage, billing and docs. Developer API overview
- Doc Manager
- Lists your files, either for the open chat (This chat) or for all your chats (All files), with Outputs and Sources views. Open full Doc Manager shows the full page. Doc Manager
- Dock
- The right-hand column that holds your open editors as tabs. Built-in editors
E
- Editing chip
- The chip that shows which open file Lato will change, with the file's title followed by editing. Its ×, Stop editing, returns you to plain chat. Chat with open editors
- Editor
- One tool open in the dock, such as a Document or a Sheet, shown as a tab. The command palette calls these panes. Built-in editors
- Effort
- How hard Lato thinks before answering, set to Auto, Min, Std, Deep or Max (Extra high). Higher effort is slower, and it does not guarantee a correct answer. Chat modes and reasoning effort
F
- Filter sessions
- The search box at the top of the sidebar. It filters chat titles as you type and, after two characters, also finds matches inside messages. Workspaces and files
G
- Group chat
- One conversation with several of your agents, made with Create group chat. @Name addresses one member, @everyone addresses the whole group, and Members changes who is in it. Agent teams and the Marketplace
I
- Import agent
- Makes your own copy of an agent template from the Marketplace and opens it with the setup card. Routines in the template stay Not enabled until you ask the agent to set a schedule. Agent teams and the Marketplace
L
- Lato
- The name of Oppermind's AI assistant. It appears above each reply, in the effort hint (how hard Lato thinks) and as the Lato group in Settings. Chat modes and reasoning effort
- Listener
- An agent that wakes when something happens in a connected Slack, Gmail, Outlook or GitHub account, set with When a connected service changes. Its row offers Pause listening and Resume listening. Routines and listeners
M
- Marketplace
- A sidebar button with three tabs, Connectors, Skills and Agent templates. It is a starting point for apps, reusable skills and new agents. Agent teams and the Marketplace
- MCP
- Model Context Protocol, the standard a tool server uses to offer tools to Lato. In Oppermind it appears as a connection type on connector cards. Custom connectors and MCP
- Memory
- A Settings tab in the Lato group. With Long-term memory on, Oppermind can remember facts across conversations, and Forget everything clears them. To store one thing, right-click a message and choose Save to memory. Privacy and data
- Mention
- Type @ in the message box to tag one of your workers, a recent conversation or a Local files document in your message. Mentions and context chips
- Message box
- Where you type to Lato, marked Ask Oppermind anything. Enter sends, Shift + Enter adds a line, and the button on the right switches between voice input, send and stop. Quickstart
N
- Needs you
- A group in the Agents list for agents waiting on your answer. The other groups are Running, Routines and listeners, Finished today and Ready. Agents mode
- New editor
- The + after the last editor tab. It lists every editor you can open empty, from Document, Sheet and Slide to Project, CAD, Animation, Music and Voice. Built-in editors
- New folder
- Adds a sidebar folder for grouping sessions and agents. Drag a chat onto a folder to move it there. Workspaces and files
- New session
- The sidebar button that starts a new chat. A new chat is headed New conversation until it gets a title. Quickstart
O
- Office add-in
- A task pane in Word, Excel and PowerPoint that reads your selection and edits the open file. Get it from Settings, Apps and extensions, with Download add-ins (.zip). Word, Excel, and PowerPoint add-ins
- Oppermind
- The AI workspace these docs describe, with chat, built-in editors, agents and connectors together. The message box reads Ask Oppermind anything, and the installed Windows app is called Oppermind too. Quickstart
- Oppermind Desktop
- The Windows app, with your whole workspace plus computer control. Download it from Settings, Apps and extensions. There is no Mac version. Oppermind Desktop
- Oppermind for Chrome
- The Chrome extension, which opens Oppermind in Chrome's side panel. Install it from Settings, Apps and extensions, with Add to Chrome. Apps, Chrome extension, and Office add-ins
P
- Pairing code
- A short code from Settings, Devices & sessions, under Pair new device. You enter it in the Oppermind app on the PC you want to link to your account. Control your PC from your phone or the web
R
- Recent chats
- The sidebar group for chats that are not in a folder. Right-click any chat to Rename, Duplicate, Share or Delete it, or drag it onto a folder. Delete asks first and then offers Undo for a few seconds. Workspaces and files
- Regenerate
- A hover action that asks for a new reply to the same question. Some failed replies show Retry instead. Quickstart
- Response mode and effort
- The button beside the message box that shows the current chat mode and effort, for example Auto Auto. It opens one panel with the chat modes and an Effort row. Chat modes and reasoning effort
- Routine
- An agent that wakes itself on a timetable. Pick a Frequency such as Every day, Weekdays or Advanced (cron), add more schedules if you need them, and use Run now or Pause from its footer. Routines and listeners
S
- Save checkpoint
- In the Code editor, saves a snapshot of your files that you can restore later. Ctrl or Cmd + Alt + S does the same. Built-in editors
- Saved
- The save status an editor shows. Most editors save by themselves shortly after a change, showing Unsaved or Saving and then Saved, and the Save button saves at once. Built-in editors
- Search conversations
- A full search of the text of your past conversations. Press / when you are not typing in a box to open it. Workspaces and files
- Set baseline
- In the Project editor, saves the current plan so Tracking Gantt can show each task's original dates beside its current ones. Clear baseline removes it. Plan and track a project in the Project editor
- Settings
- Opens with Ctrl or Cmd + , or the gear. Its groups are Start, Account, Billing, Workspace, Lato, Connections and Developer, plus Team if you belong to an organisation. Quickstart
- Skill
- A saved set of instructions for a task you repeat. Create or upload one in Settings, Skills, switch it on or off, and attach it to a chat from the Skills tab of the + menu. Skills
- Slash command
- Type / in the message box for a menu of built-in commands, such as /summarize, /deep-research, /memory and /schedule, plus commands you make yourself. Some fill in a starting prompt and others act straight away. Slash commands
- Stop generating
- While a reply is being written, the send button becomes a stop button with this tooltip. Click it to stop the reply. Quickstart
T
- Think deeper
- A hover action on a reply that asks your question again at Deep effort. In Auto it also asks Lato to fix weak points in the earlier answer and to check recent facts. Chat modes and reasoning effort
- This computer
- The step that lets Desktop co-pilot control the PC you are on. In the Desktop co-pilot panel, choose This computer and then Authorize. Desktop Agent and Desktop co-pilot
- Tool approval
- The dialog shown before an agent or worker runs an action that needs your OK, titled Approve followed by the action's name. It shows what will happen. Esc rejects, and Ctrl or Cmd + Enter approves. AI workers

- Version history
- A panel in the Document, Sheet, Slide and Code editors that lists saved versions of a file. Snapshot now saves a version, and Restore goes back to one after asking you to confirm. Built-in editors
W
- Web
- The browser editor, listed as Web under New editor. The Browser operator chat mode opens it for you. Chat modes and reasoning effort
- When a webhook arrives
- Gives an agent its own web address. Anything posted there with the agent's token wakes it, and the token is shown only once. Routines and listeners
- When to work
- The agent setting for when it runs. The choices are "When I ask", "Now, once", "On a schedule", "When a webhook arrives" and "When a connected service changes". Agents mode
- Who can see this
- An editor toolbar button, available on some plans, that sets a file to Private, Team or Organisation. Privacy and data
- Work in a local folder
- A + menu option that attaches a folder on your PC to the conversation, so Lato can edit the original files there with local history. Attaching a folder needs Oppermind Desktop on that PC. Local folders and files
- Worker
- A saved assistant with its own instructions and chat that you run on demand with Run now or on a schedule. While it runs, a progress card in chat offers Open worker, Pause run and Stop run. AI workers
- Workspace Agent 1.0
- A lighter, quicker agent mode that plans, uses tools and produces files for everyday tasks. Chat modes and reasoning effort
- Workspace Agent 2.0
- The fuller agent mode for complex work. It can put documents, sheets, decks and designs straight into their editors. Chat modes and reasoning effort
